METAL SMITHING: INTRODUCTORY COURSEWORK
Included on this page are two projects completed at Iowa State University under the supervision of Professor Joe Muench. The first project
is a silver ring designed and fabricated out of sterling silver and silver solder. The mechanism replicated in the ring were inspired my own
connection to mechanics and by the book 507 Mechanical Movements: Mechanisms and Devices by Henry T. Brown.
The second project was a brass pendent that I shaped into a Raven (additional brass pieces were attached using rivets made from brass
wire.) The wing moves and the entire piece was inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, Margaret Atwood, Carl Sagan, Phillip K. Dick,
Arthur C. Clark, Oscar Wilde, Emily Dickinson, and others.
